The Leaping Hare is a rare and remarkable book about every aspect of the life and legend of the wild hare, exploring nature, poetry, folklore, history and art. A frequent feature in the mythology of many cultures, the hare has been linked with mystery and witchcraft throughout civilisation, and still today retains an air of enchantment.
'A lovely book that is both exploratory and rooted in a sense of the hare's mystery..' Seamus Heaney

Want to know more about hares? Well, this is the book for you. The study begins with a natural history of hares (did you know their young are called leverets? that they build 'forms,' or nests, on top of the ground as opposed to burrowing beneath the earth?), then it moves to human interaction with hares, and ends discussing myth and folk beliefs about hares. I originally believed it would mostly be a folklore collection, since I'd previously read one of the author's works which was entirely folkloric (People of the Sea). While that's not what I found, this is probably more useful for the current creative project I'm working on.Product details

I ran into this after reading The Folklore of the Discworld(Terry Pratchett). He highly recommends this books and I'm glad he did.
