This is the author Robin Youngson writing directly to you...
If you are a social or environmental activist, reading this little book might be the best investment you ever make. If I had known and understood these lessons earlier, it might have spared me a decade of wasted effort.
I offer this book as a gift. If it's easy and convenient for you to buy this book to put on your - great! - but I want to let you know you can also download an e-book version for free on my website at herotohealer.org. I'm not crazy, I just want my work to live within the gift economy. If you value my book, you can offer to pay a 'donation' of your own choosing - or just enjoy it for free.
I'm a practising doctor in New Zealand and an internationally renowned leader in compassionate healthcare. I really care about building a better world. Here's the question that really bugs me "Despite our persistent efforts, and high-profile campaigns involving millions of people, why are we not making more progress on social and environmental issues? We are witnessing more poverty, more inequality, more chronic disease, more social breakdown, worsening pollution, and ever-increasing carbon emissions?"
Could it be that the strategies we employ as activists are actually sustaining the problems we're trying to address?
As honestly as I can, I share with you the five BIGGEST mistakes I made in a decade of campaigning, and how my counter-intuitive new strategies led to international success.
My book builds on a TEDx talk I gave in 2016 (youtu.be/jTYSzLtbYTU). It's entitled "Perfectly broken and ready to heal". People really liked my talk but I'm not going to share their comments here. One of my new rules is non-persuasion. I just offer this book as a gift. I really hope it helps you and your great work.

Robin Youngson bares his gigantic heart in this work, which is an expansion of themes articulated in his recent TEDx-Turanga talk. He previously outlined the challenges confronting medicine in "Time To Care" but this book is much more personal and shows his progression from moral crusader to a much more nuanced approach. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say this approach which is heavily influenced by the work of Charles Eisenstein is Ghandhi-like in its character.Product details

From HERO to HEALER Awakening the inner activist eBook Robin Youngson Reviews
This is a delightfully easy to read little book about Robin and Meredith's experiences as social change activists. It is a heart-warmingly honest account of their efforts and learning over the years, and very useful for anyone contemplating change to a more humanistic way of being. I found the analysis and conclusions particularly useful, and many of the stories struck a real cord. Thank you for your vision and insights.
I so appreciated Dr. Youngson's genuine and compelling case for a new way forward in healthcare. His inspired wisdom is much appreciated. As a young nurse, I wanted to heal and repair the world but discovered that I needed to heal myself first. Anyone reading this book will realize that the doctor has done his inner homework. Thank-you Dr. Youngson, as well as your wife, for the reminder to let goodness reign.
"In this most authentic and compelling read Dr. Youngson walks us through the burning fires of his growth on such a personal level that you cannot
turn away from his insights. Take this heartfelt read seriously to avoid the many trips and falls of turning compassion into action. This book is
not only for healthcare providers, but for anyone who wants to be a transformational leader. This book is for anyone who consciously desires
to grow their inner and outer activist and make a significant difference in the world of care."
Robin's gifts have had such a big and positive impact on my life and on the community that I'm a part of over the last twelve months. I was lucky enough to get a presentation of the ideas that he elaborates on in this book from Robin himself and what struck me was his authenticity - the lessons he shares here are hard-won, through experience, and all the more powerful for that. I'm a clinical psychology student going into my intern year and the material in this book will be something I turn back to to help nurture and feed my inner activist, and work towards creating a more compassionate world. Thanks Robin!
“From Hero to Healer” is THE new textbook for the type of evolved activism which lifts others by engaging the heart and an open mind. Readers will learn how to step into the courage of their beliefs through action that is sustainable and kind, yet effective. I am astounded by the unified leadership lessons within this book which are applicable in ANY business, not just healthcare. The message within is an encouraging call to action to evolve ourselves first-that is, to see our experiences from a “highest perspective” viewpoint that brings out the best in all. The true brilliance of this book are the examples, anecdotes, and stories which show how this unity consciousness is feasible from wherever we are. Finally, we can harness the BEST parts of ourself towards the results we want to see, and leave the judgmental, cynical aggressor days of activism behind us. A book for our times, and not a moment too soon!
